Jennifer Thomas, president of Bank of Albuquerque, third largest bank in New Mexico, said that “banks have stronger capital bases than before the recession and most have diversified their loan portfolios to be less dependent upon more risky segments of the economy.”

Bank of Albuquerque has 17 branches and employs about 240-250 people and has more than $1.5 billion in deposits, she says.

Banks have also increased their income from a wider array of financial services. She says Bank of Albuquerque is on track to exceed the success of 2018 this year.

Banks hold the lion’s share of deposits in New Mexico, but the choices of where to put that hard-earned cash have dwindled.

Paul DiPaola, president of the New Mexico operations of U.S. Bank, the fifth largest bank in the nation, said the banking industry has experienced consolidation and a reduction in the number of banks in the national system – from 15,000 in the 1990s to about 5,000 today. “That potentially could continue.

Head To The Nature Center For Family Fun Tuesday Evening

Head to the Los Alamos Nature Center on Tuesday, July 9 for an evening of fun and free programming for the whole family. The evening will begin with a Family Star Party at 5:30 p.m. in the planetarium. Astronomer Galen Gisler will show the audience constellations, planets and more. Then, join Melissa Mackey outside at Family Night to enjoy games, activities or crafts. Family Night runs from 6 to 7 p.m.

Both of these events are free to attend thanks to the Pajarito Environmental Education Center’s sponsors. New Mexico Bank & Trust sponsors the monthly Family Star Parties and Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos sponsors Family Nights. These programs take place on the second Tuesday of every month at the nature center. The nature center is open until 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, so families are welcome to come before or stay after these programs to play.

Credit union queations...?

So I want to.know the difference between all thw credit unions like..new mexico bank and trust...sandia..kirtland...new mexico educators.etc...all i basically want is to have a credit and debt card to start building my credit because i dont have.any...


You might need military or other connections for some of those. Otherwise, they are pretty generic. Pick the one that is most convenient. I trust you have a job.
